Our history

Our Business was foundet by Gerhard and Christa Küßner in Wolmirstedt on the 30.04.1962. Back then, as well as today, they followed their Passion for creating high-quality orthopaedic shoes for Wolmirsted and ist surrounding countryside.

Over 60 years ago Gerhard Küßner took an apprenticeship with a technician for orthopedics. In 1949 he took his journeyman´s examination and took part in a shoemaker-master class, wich he graduated with an grade of “good” in 1959.

As one of the bests he sat his exams for orthopedics-technician in 1961.

Chrsita und Gerhard Küßner got their business licence on the 30.04.1962 and opened their little 2-workers-business in the “Fischerufer” in Wolmirstedt. Their son Frank was born on the 07.10.1957. In his early ages he already showed interest in the craft of his parents. Soon it´s been clear, that he will take an apprenticeship with the family business. This he graduated successfully after 2 and a half years on the 28.02.1977. That´s been one year after the business moved into the “Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße” 8. With 23 years Frank attendet the master school in Dresden

1928 has been a turbulent and exciting year: Frank graduated the master school, became a soldier and proud father of his son named Tim.

3 years later he took over the Family business. Due to health issues his father withdrew from his leading position step by step. He modernized the workshop with great interest and eagerness.

1986 Frank became father for the second time by the birth of his daughter named Jenny. After the East German Revolution everything changed – some things to the better, but other Things got more complicated.

Tim decided to be a technician for orthopedics too. To learn new manufacturing techniques and work routines, he took an apprenticeship with his colleague in Salzwedel in 1999.

There he got to know his today´s wife Nicole, also a technician for orthopedics.

Together they took over the Family Business, wich they don´t regret.

He´s the main contact person when it come to questions about the care of diabetics and rheumatics, but also takes care of the production of custom-made shoes. On the other side he established himself as a certified Sensorimotor-therapist. Nicole takes care of the insoles and compression therapy, but also about the processing of cost estimations. 2008 has been another exciting year, now for both of them. Tim graduated and received his title of master craftsmen for orthopedic-shoe technology-craft and married Nicole.

By that the third Generation comes into play. Now everyone is curious, if the forth generation will be as capable in leading the Family business as Gerhard and Christa Küßner. Who both retired, due to their age and health, in 2004.

2011 the Küßner business expands to Barleben, into the “Breiteweg” 49. There they open another branch, along with a shoe trade.

For that new workers are hired. From there on they offered the same services in Barleben, as they did in Wolmirstedt.

At the moment the shoe collection includes the brands: Think!, FinnComfort, Ganter and Waldläufer.

In February 2012 Nicole gives birth to their first son. The parents hope that he will be successor of the Family business. And who knows, maybe he will be the head of the Küßner business, in forth generation.
